It's been interesting comparing my two regular games, Wednesday and Friday night. The game and players are very different, I'm still trying to find a balance between the two. Friday is almost more difficult because a lot of different types of hands are played, it's a looser game.
Here is an example of a hand I played Friday night that probably would have played out differently on Wednesday:
I was sitting under the gun with A,J of diamonds. I raised pre flop. A guy after me (a guy who plays almost any hand, at least pre flop) calls, so I knew that was a coin toss, and then it came to my brother, he raises. I re-raise all-in (about $6 more...i had bought in for $10 at that point). They both called me down. The first guy is holding K,5 off suit...my brother has K,9 suited. My brother ends up catching the 9 on the turn and takes the pot.
I re-raised all-in on this hand because I was hoping to get at least one of them to fold a mediocre hand, take the pot right there, or get it heads up.
I understood why the first guy called me down, because he likes to play a lot of questionable hands, but wasn't sure why my brother called...he's been playing a pretty tight game and I didn't think he'd call with a hand like K,9. When I asked him he said 1) he had enough to call so thought it was worth the gamble and 2) "they were suited". I'm not sure where I stand on suited cards, it appears to make the hand more valuable when you are looking down at your cards, and it certainly adds some value with higher or connected cards, but I still think it gets too much credit.
I'm glad to be playing both games because it keeps me on my toes, I can't get too used to one style of playing.
(I'm down about $10 for the weekend).
