I played a small game on Valentine's day (5 people) with Marty, Bonnie, Jimmy, and Jimmy's friend Stephanie. I think Marty is going to post about this night so I'll keep it short. Basically it went from poker to straight up gambling, which was a lot of fun, but left me -$40 for the night.

BT and Beck were back from tour so WNP was back on last night. 11 people showed up so we split into two games, there was a limit game in the kitchen, I stayed at the NL table with Fagone, Erin, Jimmy, Yves, and Tomy. Blinds were .50/$1 again. I stick to my guns that big-slick is a shit hand for more than a single raise pre-flop. If you don't flop to it, get rid of it. Last night I lost with it as overcards to the board (against a pair) and I won once with a pair of Ks.
I bought in for $20 and bought $10 more when I was down to about $10. After that I managed to keep my stack around even or up a few dollars for a while. Then I won an amazing pot:
Jimmy was first to act, he bet $3, Yves raised making it $6 total, I was in the big blind holding A,Qo. I thought Yves was trying to take the pot so I raised it another $10 making it $16 total. Jimmy folded, Yves went all in for another $30. A,Q is obviously a good hand, but if anybody else had tried to push me in for another $30 I would have seriously considered folding (they could have any pocket pair, A,K, AA, KK, anything) but I've played a lot with Yves and I had a feeling he was trying to make a move at the pot, so I called him (if I lost it would leave me with about $10 in chips). He turns over 10,3 suited! I was scard shitless he would catch a pair and I wouldn't catch anything...but I caught my A and took down the pot. I'm still not sure I made the 'correct' call...but I knew there was a good chance I wasn't up against a pocket pair or even A,K. I made the correct guess that I was up against someone trying to scare me out of the pot. That was probably the scariest and most exciting hand I've ever played...all that betting was pre-flop and I ended up raking in about $100 pot.
Two hands later I was dealt A,Qo again! Jimmy and BT were in the hand, I was in the BB and I called a single $2 raise to see the flop. The flop came down, K, J, 9 rainbow. Checked to BT who made a $4 bet and after thinking for a minute I folded, Jimmy called. The turn was an A and the river was a 3 I think. BT and Jimmy showed Ks. Oh well.
I walked away +$74 for the night which was nice since I've had a couple of big loss nights recently.

That was a scary hand. I heard the cries of confusion when I laid down my 10 3 suited clubs. What can I say? It was a gamble. I don't even remember the face values except that there were two clubs that came up and I lost. Was there a 10? I thought you had A K, though. I don't know if I want to play with friends anymore. It's too stressful. Better to play in the casinos with strangers.
