i bought the WSP 2003 dvd the other day. i haven't finished watching it yet but it's awesome so far. it's amazing to watch some of these pros that i'm starting to learn about (doyle brunson, johnny chan, howard lederer, phil hellmuth).

so we played a game at my cousin's last night. here are my notes:

i had two major hands last night, one win and one loss...and both were against the same guy, cake.

the first hand i had K,J suited and stayed in. cake was to my right, i think i raised and cake called. the flop came and i had a high flush draw. i raised and cake called. turn and river brought nothing but i bet heavy to scare cake out of the hand...i didn't think he had a high pair in his hand and was hoping he'd fold. he called me through and we showed our cards. at first i though i saw him show pocket queens, but he had Q, J. i won with K high. it was a large pot and i built a good stack.

the second hand came later. i thought about cashing out and calling it a night around 11pm (up about $60)...but decided to stick around and just play tight. well it came down to cake and me again. i had A,J suited and another flush draw on the flop. nothing on the turn. the river came up with nothing...i missed my flush. he bet me $8 and i raised him $10 trying to scare him out. there was a K on the board that i was trying to represent, i didn't think he had the K or the flush, so unless he had a high pocket pair i figured i could scare him out with a large raise...but he called! we showed our hands and he had a pair of 6s, A kicker! he took down about half my stack. i asked him why he called such a large bet with nothing but a pair of 6s when there was a K on the board? he said he was going to bed soon anyway so if he lost 'oh well'. ha!
that's poker. cake is a newer player...he's only played a few times. those are the dangerous ones to play against!

i still ended the night ahead $20...so i doubled my money. i was happy and it was a fun night.

i have so much to learn about poker.
